Our Story
Newly opened in December of 2021, Blossom Market Hall pushed through myriad construction delays and a global pandemic to finally open to the public breathing new life into a former 1949 Masonic Lodge in the historic Mission District of San Gabriel.
Featuring 13 diverse food vendors, mostly chef-driven and mom & pop, the food hall aims to bring a platform for local chefs to showcase their cuisines and talents while creating a gathering place for the community centered around food.
The dynamic food hall also features a stage for live entertainment, a WiFi lounge, rotating art gallery, and meeting room.
FAQs
Are outside food and drinks allowed?
We prefer that you do not bring outside food and/or drinks unless they are for children. However, if you must bring outside food and/or drinks we ask that you also purchase food and/or drinks from our vendors. Our staff work hard to maintain our stellar reputation for having a very clean atmosphere and would like our tables and seating to be prioritized for our vendors’ customers.
Are you a family-friendly place?
Yes, absolutely! We love to see families at Blossom. We provide high chairs, a children’s toilet located in the women’s restroom, and some vendors offer kid’s menu items. Minors are just not currently allowed to sit in the bar area due to local liquor laws, though we hope that rule changes soon!
Are dogs allowed inside the food hall?
Dogs are very much welcome in any of the outdoor seating areas. Only service animals are allowed indoors due to the open kitchens.
Why are prices on the higher side?
Unfortunately, inflation and rising labor costs have continuously been causing the prices of ingredients, supplies, and operating costs to increase rapidly. Our vendors must make difficult choices to raise their prices or else they will be unable to operate profitably. Also, many of our vendors make food with high-quality and fresh ingredients choosing to not compromise on quality.
Are there vegan and/or plant-based options?
Yes! Many of our diverse vendors offer plant-based items on their menu.
Why have many vendors closed and been replaced by new ones?
Blossom Market Hall is an incubator for food start-ups. The founders have always envisioned it to be a place where chefs and small food businesses could test their concepts. Instead of leasing to established chains and proven concepts which are the most stable and reliable tenants, they chose to give a chance to small and new operators taking on higher risk alongside them. The restaurant industry inherently has a high failure rate and sadly most start-up restaurants do not make it. In today’s world, simply having delicious food isn’t always a guarantee of success. However, the founders felt it was important for the community to have a place where small food businesses could launch.
Additionally, most new food halls tend to have high turnover in the early years since several new restaurants are opening all at once and not all of them will make it. Sometimes, vendors will close after a short period for personal reasons ranging from lifestyle choices to family matters. Sometimes, a vendor’s business is just not a good match for the setting. However, as time goes on, the vendor line-up becomes more stable as it fills with restaurants with sustainable businesses, concepts that work, and operators who have found their groove.
It has been amazing to watch several of our chefs and small start-up food businesses open their first brick and mortar location and continue to grow over time bringing new cuisines to the area and growing into the community. Seven of our original vendors are still in operation to this day with a few exciting new ones having joined since then. We are very proud of all the fantastic vendors in our quality and diverse line-up and hope you will enjoy every single one of them!
